Summer Events in Aspen & Beyond

Here’s an overview of some of the hottest festivals from Rifle to Aspen.

New Castle Community Days – early June
Heralding the beginning of summer, Community Days celebrates the charming town of New Castle. Located within a narrow valley and surrounded by soaring peaks, New Castle embodies the modern town of the west. Community Days offers Vintage Baseball, live music, community worship and delicious food.

Garfield County Fair & Rodeo – August 3-8
Get ready for a rollicking good time at the Garfield County Fair! Located in Rifle, this event brings together a Professional Cowboys Rodeo, Pro Bull Riders, a Demolition Derby and a concert by country star Gary Allan. Check out the 4-H and FFA animals that reach Grand Champion status and satisfy your hunger with tasty fare from the food booths.

Glenwood Springs Strawberry Days – June 19-21
Nothing says summer like biting into a fresh strawberry ripened by the Rocky Mountain sun. Glenwood Springs celebrates the fruit with a fun run, Battle of the Bands, comedy, magic, a parade and the crowning of Miss Strawberry Days. If you’re hungry, try some funnel cakes, ice cream, BBQ meats, refreshing beverages and of course, the almighty strawberry.

Carbondale Mountain Fair – July 24-26
There’s a reason that the Carbondale Mountain Fair has been going strong for 44 years. With 145 vendors offering unique arts and crafts, a global food court and nonstop music, festival goers continue to laugh, dance and smile year after year. Check out the wood splitting contests—invigorated by enthusiastic emcees.

Marble Fest – August 8 & 9
Come to Marble for a grassroots celebration of the town’s heritage and culture. Enjoy the delightful arts and acoustic music festival that takes place on the marble block stage in the natural amphitheater of Marble Mill Site Park. Relax to the songs of Free the Honey, Smuggler Mountain Boys and Ancient Mith. Grab a thirst quenching drink, some delectable snacks and let the music rejuvenate your spirit.

Basalt River Days – August 17 & 18
Join in Basalt River Days and experience how locals celebrate their Gold Medal Rivers and gorgeous valley. With continuous local and national music, children’s entertainment and an abundance of festival food, you won’t go hungry in any sense of the word. A perennial favorite is the pie stand—laden with all sorts of delectable fruit and nut confections.

Snowmass Mammoth Fest – June 12-14
If you like to mix brews, chili, music and the discovery of ancient mammals, then the Snowmass Mammoth Fest is the place to be! Get in on the chili tasting and vote for your favorite. Beer sampling reaches new highs while listening to Tedeschi Trucks Band, Greensky Bluegrass, Donavon Frankenreiter and DJ Echo DaFunk. Inflatable castles, hula hoops and games entertain children in the Kid’s Area.

Aspen Ideas Festival – June 24- July 3
This festival differs from most summer celebrations by gathering together global leaders and thinkers to discuss the challenging ideas of our times. From government policy and educational theory to religion and new technologies, speakers such as Hillary Clinton and Malala Yousafzai discuss the finer points of today’s opportunities.
