The holiday season is when the Roaring Fork Valley comes to life for the winter. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, the valley bustles with holiday events that light up all the towns from New Castle to Aspen. Here are five holiday events not to be missed.
New Castle – Holiday Tree Lighting and Chili Cook-off

Gather with the New Castle community in Burning Mountain Park for this annual holiday favorite. Sample award-winning chilies from some of the most talented chefs in the area and help the town of New Castle usher in the holiday season with the Holiday Tree Lighting.
Rifle – Hometown Holiday Celebration 2017

Three days of holiday events in Rifle, Colorado including a visit from Santa at the Ute Theater, window display contest at local shops, RACC & CMC Community Craft Fair & Pottery Sale and much more.
Glenwood Spring – A Grand Holiday 2017

If you haven’t had the chance to meet St. Nick or see a live reindeer in person, stop by the Glenwood Springs County Courthouse and bring the kids. Redstone & Marble – The Grand Illumination

The Grand Illumination is a unique post-Thanksgiving holiday event. It gathers the communities of Redstone and Marble together around a giant bonfire rather than a tree covered in lights. Join in the fun and celebrate the holidays with horse-drawn wagon rides, caroling, and of course, the lighting of the bonfire.
Basalt – Light Up Willits with Santa and Mrs. Claus

Santa and Mrs. Clause are heading to Willits Town Center to kick off Basalt’s holiday events this year. The Basalt Lions Club will be joining them to serve up homemade hot chocolate, spiced cider, coffee and chili, all for a donation. There will also be a toy drive, so bring a gift for a kiddo in need.
Aspen – New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Aspen

Aspen is a magical place to visit during the holidays. You can hit the slopes, ice skate for free, attend The Nutcracker at The Wheeler Opera House or just enjoy a cup of hot chocolate downtown on a snowy day. There is no shortage of fun holiday events in Aspen between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. One of the major highlights of the holiday season is the fireworks display that lights up the city on New Year’s Eve at 8:00 pm and 12:00 am. Make sure to bundle up if viewing it outside.
