Fun Winter Activities Throughout the Roaring Fork Valley

screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-1-57-28-pmThe winter is in full swing here in the Roaring Fork Valley! With winter storm after winter storm the snow has been piling up. With all this snow, it can be hard to find activities that aren’t alpine skiing, so to make things a little easier we put together our list of favorite things to do throughout the valley!

Aspen Ice Skating: Although Aspen is renowned for its world-class downhill skiing it also boasts a beautiful outdoor ice rink right in the center of town! The Silver Circle Ice Rink is located at the foot of Aspen Mountain just across from Ruby Park.

Snowmass Cross Country Skiing: The Snowmass Cross Country Center offers over 60 miles of premier, maintained cross country skiing! The cross-country center is located at the Snowmass Club Golf Course, be sure to swing by for trail maps and more details.

Basalt Arbaney Kittle Trail: The Arbaney Kittle Trail, located just outside of Basalt, offers 17.5 miles of beautiful trail overlooking the Roaring Fork River and the beautiful town of Basalt. Make sure to bring your hiking boots as the trail is most likely covered in snow this time of year!

Carbondale Cross Country Skiing: Located down valley? Still want to XC ski without driving to Snowmass? Check out Spring Gulch! This free maintained trail network sports over 13 miles of beautiful cross country trails just outside of Carbondale. Glenwood Springs Hot Springs: Glenwood Springs’ hot springs have gained quite a national reputation. The small-town sports multiple bathing houses all fueled from hot springs bubbling up beside the Colorado River.

Redstone Ice Climbing: Redstone boasts some of the best ice climbing in the state of Colorado. Driving through the sheer cliffs of the Crystal River Valley you can see the extensive ice flows cascading down over the rocks. With the help of a local guide such as Aspen Expeditions Worldwide you can go and climb these frozen waterfalls yourself!

Marble Snowmobiling: Marble, with its extensive winter trail network boasts incredible snowmobiling access. Be sure to check out the maps with the Marble Chamber before heading out into the wilderness!

Rifle State Parks: The Rifle area boasts two spectacular state parks. Our favorites are Rifle Mountain State Park and Rifle Falls State Park. Enjoy the scenic drive through rural Colorado before entering the staggering limestone canyons that make up these two parks. Make sure not to miss the huge ice flows in Rifle Mountain State Park this time of year!
