Featured Town: New Castle

New Castle Colorado located just a few miles west of Glenwood Springs is a quaint town situated in a narrow valley with views of high mountain peaks, four distinct seasons and a close knit local community. New Castle is also rich with local history and hosts a town museum that features old fashioned medicines, coal mining history and oral histories of the area. The New Castle area is also home to fantastic local events including live music, art shows and awesome outdoor opportunities. With so much to do in New Castle it can be hard to decide! Here are our favorite things to do in this month’s featured town, New Castle Colorado.

Art, Music & Culture: The center of art, music and culture in New Castle is the artists’ collective, The Speckled Feather Mercantile located in the New Castle City Market Plaza. This center of art and culture is comprised of independent designers with a focus on local entrepreneurs and hosts several local art and craft classes.

Community Market: The New Castle Community Market features several local produce, craft and food vendors along with fantastic live music. A few vendors that you can always count on to be there are Elegant Jeweler, Juicy Acres and the New Castle Diner. The Community Market runs from July 6th to September 21st.

Parks, Trails & Open Spaces: Colorado is the place for people who love the outdoors and New Castle is authentically Colorado! With countless public parks and open spaces New Castle boasts plenty of wide open spaces to ensure everyone has the space they need. Some of our favorite parks include Alder Park, Coal Ridge Park and Grand River Park. Located throughout New Castle and boasting all types of activities these parks and the many others offer fantastic family fun.

Recreation: It doesn’t matter how you recreate New Castle has bountiful recreation opportunities for you. With acres of public land just outside town New Castle residents have access to fantastic recreation year around including hiking, fishing, horseback riding, skiing, snowboarding, hunting, camping and more! Pick your favorite and go!

Golf: Opened in May of 2004 the Lakota Canyon Ranch & Golf Club features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by James Engh. The Lakota Canyon course features incredible mountain and canyon views and has become known as one of Colorado’s premier golf courses. PGA certified professionals offer instruction for individuals and groups.
