This town of 6,427 people, just over 40 miles northwest of Aspen on Highway 82, is made of hardworking entrepreneurs and fun-loving families.

South of town, Mount Sopris stands sentry at 12,953 feet, providing a majestic backdrop for the town’s activities. The Crystal River along Hwy 133 is heaven on earth for kayakers and fisherman. The Roaring Fork River along the town’s Highway 82 entrance, provides recreation for rafters, kayakers, paddle boarders and dories with fisherman. The biking, hiking and cross country ski trails are phenomenal.

Events
Here’s a small sampling of the year-round events happening in Carbondale.

Carbondale Mountain Fair – For over 40 years, Carbondalians have been giving a toast to summer with their Mountain Fair. Usually held the last weekend of July, the fair boasts 145 vendors with Colorado art, local crafts, artisanal food and friendly competitions. Musical performances are nonstop, as is the fun.

First Fridays – The first Friday of every month brings nighttime hours for shops, pop up art exhibitions, dining specials and soul stirring music. These events have been so popular that they’ve expanded the layout of festivities.

5 Point Film Festival – Short adventure documentaries entertain and inspire as surprise guests share their insights. Eclectic performances complement the growing spring event which features 50 stylish films from around the world.

This list doesn’t begin to cover Dandelion Day, the Jingle Bell Run, Sopris Music Fest, Bike Week, the Wild West Rodeo and the Celtic Fest, among other events.

Restaurants
The array of restaurants in Carbondale is astounding. For pizza try White House Pizza or Peppinos. Sushi gets top billing at Ming’s café and Konnyaku. For amazing pasta try Allegria, and the breakfast burritos at Dos Gringos Burritos will make your taste buds sing.
